Upgrading the Staff of Lightning in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies transforms a standard elemental weapon into Kimat's Bite, a formidable asset for high-round survival on the Origins map. To complete the process, players must solve a series of musical and environmental puzzles across the excavation site and surrounding trenches. Understanding each step ensures your team can efficiently power up the staff without wasting precious rounds.

Solving the Piano Puzzle in the Crazy Place

Once you acquire the base Lightning Staff, travel to the Crazy Place through any element portal. Located near the purple portal area, you will find a musical piano key puzzle set against the wall. To solve it, play three specific three-note chords on the purple keys using your Lightning Staff in the correct order: 1-3-5, 2-4-6, and 3-5-7.

Listen carefully for the audio cue that confirms each successful chord sequence. If you hit an incorrect note, the puzzle resets and requires you to re-enter the active chord. Completing this step unlocks the next stage of the upgrade process back on the main map surface.

Turning the Sparking Dials Across the Map

Return to the main trenches to locate seven electrical switches scattered across key areas like the Church, Spawn, and Tank Station. Each switch features a small dial that sparks continuously until turned to its proper cardinal direction. You must interact with each dial until it stops sparking and remains static in its designated position.

For instance, set the switch near Generator 5 to face down and the switch inside the Church lower floor to face left. Systematically resolving all seven switches across the map stops the electrical overload and triggers a beam of light near the excavation mound.

Aligning the Rings and Charging the Staff

Head down into the bottom level of the Excavation Site where four large stone rings hang suspended. Rotate the circular levers on the surrounding wooden scaffolding until all four ring lights glow purple to match the lightning element. Once aligned, shoot the purple orb at the bottom of the rings using the Lightning Staff to send it into the sky.

Finally, return to the Crazy Place and place the staff onto its purple pedestal. Eliminate roughly twenty zombies near the pedestal to collect their souls and fully charge the weapon. Once fully powered, retrieve Kimat's Bite to unleash charged electrical bursts capable of clearing whole hordes instantly.
